OOC
GAME: Road to Nowhere
DESCRIPTION: RPG based on the TV series Supernatural.
DATE: September 2007
PB: Norman Reedus
JOURNAL: furied
CONCEPT: Inspired by Jane's writeup for her Savnock's demonic rival: "If Savnock pretended to play the horseman of Pestilence, Andras was War. Savnock brought the threat of things that went bump in the night, but Andras brought heat that bumped in the veins: the fraying of tempers, the escalation of feuds, the end of forgiveness in a peaceful town. After a few days, sacrificing the soul of one's neighbor seemed not just justified, but satisfying. Much of what was attributed to "hunger mobs" in the Midwest was actually Andras' doing.
It was fun for all demons involved — the equivalent of a keg party/clam bake — but less efficient than Savnock's tight smile and quiet threats. His quotas never came back quite as high. His deals were one-time-only. Ambitious and perhaps a bit cleverer than Savnock, but with louder and more immediately destructive powers, he developed a passing rivalry with his demonic colleague.
Savnock doesn't know if Andras betrayed him, but he certainly hopes so."
TRIVIA: The one (and so far only) time I have blatantly matched PBs with a friend, due to an overabundance of Boondock Saints love: Andras' PB was Norman Reedus, and Puja's trickster Liam was PBed by Sean Patrick Flanery. What can I say? They worked beautifully together.
IC
full name William Jonathan Harris.
and the real one? Andras.
birthdate/age William was born on August 5th, 1977, making him thirty years old. Andras, on the other hand, has been around since the Dark Ages in the ninth century. Yes, he found the fall of ancient culture and rise of barbarism highly entertaining.
last known location Wherever his whims take him.
occupation What, you honestly expect him to be employed for these sacks of meat?
race Mid-level demon.
abilities Sower of discord, baby. Andras is fiercely attuned to the tempers and rages of human beings. He can escalate their anger, indulge their wrath, and make them react violently to small annoyances that would normally have gone by largely unnoticed. In short: he plays their moods like a harp, constantly nudging them to greater and greater distances, making it more and more likely that they'll snap. He tries to keep these manipulations on a case-by-case basis — but while drawing upon his full power, Andras is more than capable of sending everyone in a small town into frenzies of bloodlust. He just doesn't do this quite so often anymore. It's messy, and it would draw in hunters from all over the country.
personality Narcissistic, cruel, and vindictive. Combine the wildfire petulance of a child with the vast power of a demon, and you've got Andras — getting the picture yet? At the end of the day, this demon is only out to do what will benefit himself. True, he's practically brother-bound to a trickster spirit, but this is because his collaboration with Liam is extremely beneficial and leaves them both the stronger and better off. He has an extremely short temper, which is understandable, given his abilities. He lives in a perpetual edge of being shunted into fuming rages, and it's taken him the better part of a millennium to learn to master his temper somewhat. That said, he still doesn't succeed. It's incredibly easy to taunt him into murder, and the concept of patience and a long fuse is, for the most part, lost on Andras. This also means he is incredibly dangerous to be around, because while he is a deal-making demon, his deals are sporadic and destructive for all involved.
sexuality Pretty much heterosexual. Yes, demons can have preferences! And he likes the female body. Shuddap.
quirks/habits Smokes like a chimney. There's something about nicotine and cigarettes that just seems to appeal to demons while in their human hosts; perhaps it's because their natural forms are black smoke. Or because fire and brimstone is, in essence, their normal habitat. Or perhaps because their bodies, while, possessed, remain invulnerable to tedious substances like tar, arsenic, ammonia, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide…
history Ask Andras how old he is, and he'll reply with a quirk of his lips, "Older than sin." And it is, to some extent, true. Andras' demonic history remains a long and persistent one of reckless abandon. Hunters have sent him screaming down to hell untold times, but he's always clawed his way out eventually; because anger is primal, and human beings cannot survive without wrath lurking behind them. Where riots go out of control, or policemen snap and savage civilians for no apparent reason, or men break and take a shotgun to work — Andras is there, his voice in their heads, egging them on. While some demons accomplish their tasks with aplomb and quiet manipulation, Andras' technique is more like being struck with a sledgehammer. But it works, and it's been working even better since he teamed up with a trickster spirit some decades ago.
He found his current body in New York. Will was a street-savvy chef at a crappy hole-in-the-wall diner — it had its own homemade charm, with good food and a good reputation, and a popularity mostly due to William's fast fingers and even faster tongue. He was extremely good with knives. And he watched his own kitchen burn to the ground after Andras moved into his body and decided he liked it here.
Throughout the eons, he's always been an incredibly ambitious demon. He is not part of the upper echelon — he's not one of the big bads, and Andras is entirely aware of this. It is very, very difficult for a demon to attain power short of having been born at the top. But oh, how he wishes. He bows his head and kowtows whenever one of the yellow-eyed demonspawn passes through, but more than anything, he wishes he could have been one of them. And many years ago, never understanding the finesse of regular and dependable long-term soul contracts, Andras instead chose to steal from one who did: Savnock. Now, every few years, he can safely reel in a soul or three in the name of someone else. Doublecrossing apparently leads to some pretty sweet results.
The demon doesn't know that the repercussions of this backstabbing are still waiting to hit him. In the meantime, he's having a hell of a time cruising around the United States, remaining worryingly elusive from hunters' clutches. Most recently, he took the souls of three blondes in Tempe, Arizona. Will, on the other hand, is desperate to obtain freedom from his demonic parasite; the poor man's seen more than enough trauma from behind those eyes to leave him fairly psychologically scarred, but he still wants out. Andras enjoys playing with this rebellion, and often depossesses Will in a quiet moment, churning into black smoke in the room. He allows the man some five seconds of freedom before plunging in again, like a cat playing with its food.
and what about william? A couple years out of university, Will ran away from home to prove his family wrong. He succeeded. Mostly. He lived in a dingy apartment and barely scraped past rent, but at least he was off the streets and making money. The kitchen was successful, and every year, he told himself he'd call home; he'd visit for Christmas; he'd go see if his mom had gotten any better. Needless to say, it is now too late.
