Brief history: Aurora Sinistra is an incredibly practical woman, with a mind that constantly whirls on logical paths. Even at a young age, she seemed to have a quiet wisdom in her that didn't quite belong. She was Sorted into Slytherin during her years at Hogwarts, even though her keen, whirling mind could easily have landed her into Ravenclaw. Yet ultimately, it was her intense drive to succeed that landed her as a serpent - she was constantly pushing herself to read the most, to study the most, to be the best spellworker.
Aurora's sickly brother Louis, many years younger than her, was already dead and buried at the age of seven. Not all illnesses can be cured by magic, and the death of a child isalways difficult - the family took the blow hard.
And ms. Sinistra herself became even quieter, and more sombre. She has a tendency to fuss over others, and her mathematical mind made her perfectly suited for arithmancy and astronomy, but behind that exterior lurks the heart of a dreamer. She's an extreme romanticist, and her main joy is in the smaller things in life - the taste of strawberries, the crackling of a Muggle phonograph, the smell of old books, hot simmering tea, and waltzing.
She doesn't take arguments well and hates confrontation, though she's generally a very fair and objective grader as a professor. She guards her words carefully, and won't blab more than she intends to say, yet she also highly enjoys conversation. Aurora delights in speaking to her coworkers and to the students - her face lights up almost immediately once a good conversation gets rolling.
