history: The oldest son of a pair of Irish immigrants to Inner City, Beclem grew up partially raising his two younger brothers. Since their parents, Richard and Maud, were so often absent at work, he had to take up the slack at home. His vaguely hostile personality meant that he was arguing with his siblings more often than not, however, and being more like a domineering father than an older brother. He was still acutely aware of his responsibilities, though, and constantly attempted to shoulder the burden of helping his family.
Money was short for the three sons so they all went to the local public high school. While there, Beclem ended up excelling in athletics, and remained a steady member of the soccer team. He might've pushed a bit too hard in his training, and nagged his teammates a bit too often, but at the end of it all, they couldn't help but admit that he pushed them for their own good. Anyone who befriended the young man eventually realized there was a softer side to him than the harsh and sarcastic facade he normally presented.
Now twenty-one and a junior at Inner City University, Beclem is still playing soccer on the varsity team, and working part-time as a fitness instructor. He lives in a decent apartment in Djose, and occasionally visits his family in Balamb.
personality: A natural snark, Beclem often tests others with his cool and near-hostile personality, becoming a bit of a trial to put up with. He's extremely stubborn and persistent, but also primarily responsible and level-headed. Though he may come across as cruel and insulting, it's really just his initial appearance. All of his cold behaviour stems from a reluctance to commit to friendships— but once a connection is forged, Beclem can be an extremely dedicated and loyal companion.
His particular weakness is a tendency to reminisce over his own past, and quietly mull things over a bit more than he should. He's very liberal, but can be too heartless in his skeptical and condescending nature towards religion and other old institutions. Beclem prefers innovation and progress.
