Comic Character.
NAME/ALIAS:
Gilda Dent
PUBLISHER/UNIVERSE: DC
POWERS: Nada, zip, zilch. Unless you count her inhuman patience.
STATUS: She'll reveal it after a few conversations and if they happen to ask, particularly when they're male. It's just a thing. She doesn't really mind people knowing, since there isn't a lot of judgement associated with being the innocent wife.

Character.
NAME:
Gabrielle Lamont
AGE/BIRTHDATE: 27 / February 4, 1982 (AQUARIUS)
SEXUALITY: As heterosexual as they come.
OCCUPATION: Interpreter and ticket-taker at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, in addition to being an independent sculptor and painter.
LOCATION: Morningside Heights.

APPEARANCE: Gaby was always a bit on the skinny side — being waifish and too small for sports, it's little wonder that she ended up doing fine art. She has a certain look of fragility to her and dresses more modestly than most, which sometimes surprises the people who know her to be a wanton flirt and an easy-going bedfellow. She's learned how to take advantage of her mousy good looks to their utmost with a flattering fashion sense and some conventional up-dos. She's mostly characterised by and remembered for her freckles, sweet smile, and that iconic bob haircut.
PB: Gemma Arterton

PERSONALITY: If Harvey Dent was the all-American man, honest and upright, then Gilda Dent was the quintessential American wife: quiet, demure, sweet, and well-mannered. All of these traits have carried over onto Gabrielle: she waits her turn, she obeys the law, and remains only slightly embarrassed by her lack of fame in the comics world ("Gilda who?"). She's no Wonderwoman, and no Catwoman either, but if there's one thing she stands fast on, it is Two-Face. Gilda's personality is defined by its surprisingly fierce dedication, and her absolute steadfastness even in the wake of sheer batshit insanity.

A sculptor and artist with a half-finished economics degree behind her, the Gilda reincarnation kicked in hard, and Gabrielle would have been a high-powered corporate bitch by now if she hadn't been tempered by Gilda's timid, patient, and mousy demeanour. She was far more flighty and unintentionally abrasive during her university years, yet Gilda's influence has thankfully mellowed her out. But just as Gilda went largely unnoticed, an oft-forgotten footnote in the annals of comic book history, Gabrielle has (unfortunately) gotten used to being second-rate and second-best. This has resulted in, shall we say, just a little bit of a competitive drive? Gaby was rattled by the manifestation of her comic persona (an unwelcome and disrupive intrusion into her life if ever there was one), and hated how Gilda's existence was always stuck in this stupid stasis just waiting for Harvey to come back to her — so she's determined to change that this time around. Polite she may be, but decades' worth of memories — of being the pitiful crying saint and life never ever working out for the Dents — has resulted in a Gabrielle Lamont desperate to have that life go right for once. She will become absolutely catty and ruthless if anyone gets in her way; she knows exactly what she wants, and rarely gives up on it. This is Gilda's quiet, harmless patience turned on crazy overdrive when it's thwarted.

She's an incorrigible flirt (which is undeniably Gabrielle, not Gilda), and keeps her bed occupied as often as possible. Any man's warm body is better than none, after all! But she knows full well she's just biding time until she can reclaim Harvey. Stubbornly optimistic and secretly a romantic at heart, Gabrielle has experienced years of feeling emotionally married to someone she's never met. In every relationship, there's always been the vague hint that her heart belonged elsewhere; she did not give all of herself away, because somewhere, very deep down, whether at age fifteen or twenty-six, she was always Mrs. Dent. She is loyal and obedient and a little unhinged — she's not exactly a doormat in her regular day-to-day grind, but she'll put up with no ends of shit for the sake of ~twu wuv~. Yeah, bail on a date and she'll wait for hours — but get between her and a professional gallery, and girl will go batshit. Men are undeniably her large, gaping weakness.

She displays a fierce devotion — bordering on obsession — towards maintaining her commitments. She has always been horrifically, terrifyingly reliable. Whilst Two-Face might need a coin to tackle morality, to Gilda's credit, she always knows exactly where her loyalties lie; she has her priorities straight, and they consist, primarily, of being a fierce and unflagging bastion of support and belief to whichever of her friends need it. And she'll keep that proverbial light in the window burning bright for his return.

She believes in Harvey Dent.

HISTORY: If he was law, then Gilda was order — perfectly-crafted lists, and meticulous noting of holidays and anniversaries. She represented something to come home to, and normalcy.

And normalcy is the keyword here, folks: Gabrielle Lamont's parents were a strained nuclear family trying desperately to keep it together. Thomas and Charlotte argued, smiled, and gritted their teeth through a loveless marriage in order to maintain some sort of perceived status quo. They clung onto old-fashioned ideals and an instinctive aversion to divorce, preferring late arguments and sleeping in separate bedrooms rather than becoming social pariahs. Their relationship was never abusive, just… well, loveless. With a lonely childhood between divisive parents who had forgotten what romance is like, it made Gaby desperate to experience something much better and, pardon the cliché, but she's been looking for love in all the wrong places since then. She was looking for something big and epic and kind of heart-breaking. She just never knew why until the memories started coming back.

Gabrielle was well on her way to a degree in economics and business management when she had her first nervous breakdown.

Some called it stress-induced, others career jitters; but either way, it ended up in her abruptly juggling her life around and majoring in art history instead. Her father didn't speak to her for six months, but her mother seemed happy enough about the decision. What they didn't know was that the persona of Gilda Dent had finally manifested completely, making it the culmination of several years of restlessness and a feeling of aimless waiting. Gaby would have happily checked herself into rehab if it weren't for the kindly visit from Martin Schaffer, along with his explanations regarding comic books and reincarnation.

After graduation, Gaby ended up working at museum and sculpting on the side. Her old friends at business school raised some eyebrows; only her other reincarnated peers would know that this reshaping of her life happened as the result of one certain Gilda Dent.

The memories resurfaced, and with them came Gabrielle's bull-headed stubbornness and her refusal to lay down and get shafted by destiny all over again. Who knows whether this is a bad thing or not, but she is not trying to break out of her pattern at all — actually, she wants to live the life of the Dents again, because she wants another shot at it. She wants another chance not to lose him. Desperation has driven her to stagnate as Gilda Dent; Gabrielle has accepted this role whole-heartedly, and embraces her identity as Harvey Dent's poor, patient wife. It has, admittedly, been somewhat beneficial to her; the persona gave her the calm she didn't even know she needed, buried somewhere elbow-deep in spreadsheets and group presentations. She's quite liking this new walk of life as an artsy thespian.

She's still hovering about, nosing her way through the comic world and trying to find her peers. But in the meantime, Gabrielle has careened her way through university and her fledgling career, and through an utterly atrocious track record with men. Typically, she still believes the best of them even when they turned out to be worthless turds, like the high school boyfriends with infidelity problems and the college boyfriends who treated her like some handsome trophy to hang in their collection. She developed a history of constantly attaching herself to the greatest and most influential men in her circles, despite their occasionally treating her like shit.

But over the past ten years, she's finally wisened up and stopped being quite so… passive. Some of Gaby's natural cutthroat mentality is surfacing again, and preventing Gilda from letting them walk all over her. Gabrielle doesn't like being walked over. She likes taking charge of her own life. Maybe this explains the whole Holiday thing — but let's not get into that.

The past seven months in the Crossover community haven't treated her nicely. While Gabrielle did finally settle down with her first long-term boyfriend ever, the reincarnation of Pietro Maximoff, she also experienced constant worrying over his safety, arguing with Magneto, and losing one of her best friends to a random mugging. On the day when the comic book personalities crossed over, the Dents reunited in bed — thus leaving Gabrielle Lamont and Jacob Borroughs to pick up the pieces, which would only insert more unwanted turbulence in her relationship with Matthew. She found safety during the earthquake and riots, however, and has spent the following months attempting the slow uphill climb again. The attempted lifestyle of the bohemian artiste has left her in dire financial straits, and Gaby's both angling for a promotion at the Met and looking for a new place to stay.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: There's a new gallery opening on Saturday. It's not featuring most of my work or anything, but I do have two pieces there, so I think I'm allowed to bring about five guests? You're all welcome to join. First come first serve — unless you're willing to buy me drinks, in which case you get absolute priority, of course. ;)

PLOT IDEAS: Needs female peers to go out for girly drinking nights with! Also there is epic arc of epic with Jacob, since y'all know reincarnated marriages are awkward. Also, depending on how she interacts with villains (it would be kind of amazing if she got on close conversational terms with a few of them), she might be somewhat ambivalent regarding that certain moral grey zone; some hints of Jeph Loeb's Gilda who-does-terrible-things-for-love and would even like to believe she became a serial killer to become closer to her husband…
