PROF/NORWAY

Professor. Norwegian polar explorer, inventor/explorer, uncle to sibs. [IOAN GRUFFUDD]
- Doesn't look v. Norwegian, but he'll do. The facial hair is a plus.
- Would probably be the cool younger uncle to the sibs. Prodigal, professional — wanderlust, always needing to move and explore and invent. Likes the outdoors, obviously. A bit coarse/abrasive/unfriendly. Strongly family-oriented, though. Loyal to them in particular. Overprotective of the kids. Strong attitude once you've pissed him off. Stubborn. Rugged and outdoorsy, in a lean and bare-basics sort of way. Stripped down to the bone by the arctic.
- uenig. Edvard Kristoffer [Haug].
- "A burly arctic explorer & mountaineer who specialises in inventions to aid ambitious men in traversing the frozen wilderness, including but not limited to: thermal clothing, quick-assembly tents, sub-zero flashlights, mountaineering gadgets, and a steampunked snowmobile."
- NOTES: Mebbe some farmland outside of Bergen, as mentioned in your post? It really isn't hard to bump into farms, either — I grew up across the street from one, and this is modern Norway we're talkin' about. (ALSO I AM A FAN OF THE BERGEN DIALECT, IT'S SEXY.)
So a family of SCONEers, either formerly farmers or farmers on the side, part of a new wave of ambitious entrepreneurs…? I FIGURE my man would have moved to Kristiania when he was older, but starting from outside the cities is a++++.
He was always more of a loner, really enjoys family but chose not to have one because his wanderlust lifestyle kept drawing him out and into the lonely wilderness and who could marry that amirite, but he still lives a little vicariously through his brother and envies him for being a father, and is therefore so indulgent and protective of those kids…
"K & brother from somewhere outside of the cities; which wasn't hard at the time, but more remote Norway? Giving him all that space and interest in the wilderness. I was thinking to compliment the family, the brother/father was a proper inventor. This gives him the ability to be keen on the youngest being a mad scientist (oh, go on, try it!), Lindsey's girl building ghost-hunting packs (I'll help!), Kae's boy being a society dandy ("I love your shirt!"), and Malin being a medic (I'VE CUT MY ARM ON THIS KNIFE, COME FIX ME)."
STUDENT/A-H
Female, Hungarian, daughter of occultist (magic!). [KIM NOORDA]
- If Prussian: opportunity to play a German-speaking character again AW YISS
- If Austro-Hungarian: opportunity to hit up Anna & get info on Hungarians! AND THEY HAVE SUCH AWESOME NAMES.
- Daughter of a John Constantine-esque magician character? That or stage magician w/ proper magic (a la The Prestige) — either way, flashy and confident and showboaty.
- To contrast: the daughter is extremely quiet. Not ~sassy and bamf~ at all. Composed, elegant, and ethereal. Types with nocaps. Apologetic and obedient, but not a complete pushover. Some sort of delicate magical power? "Occultists! Symbologists, rune experts, etc." Nigh-superhuman ability to read riddles/cyphers/runes? Rune magic? HURM.
- "The daughter of a reknowned stage magician, Erzsébet possesses an uncanny talent for reading riddles, rolling runes, cracking cyphers, and learning languages. She's rarely found without her trusty pen and paper, scribbling cryptograms and making up new alphabets."
- Erzsébet.
